There was a storm and the resulting floods carried away Ta Tai's son.

Four or five days later, however, the boy was found at the same spot from where he disappeared. When Ta Tai questioned his son, the boy said: "There is someone who took me to a secret place, where he turned into a vampire and wanted to kill me. But suddenly Ta Eysei (a hermit) appeared to save me and took me back." After hearing the story, Ta Tai and his wife believed that their son was saved by Ta Eysei or Neak Sachang (another mane of hermit). Ever since then, the Waterfall has been called Ta Eysei Waterfall or Ta Tai Waterfall.

Ta Keo Temple

Built during the reign of Jayavarman V and formerly dedicated in 1000 AD, it was one of the first temples to be built entirely of sandstone, however was never fully completed. According to inscriptions, this was due to it being struck by lightning, which was seen as a bad omen. However another likely reason may have been that the King died before its completion, where upon a struggle for succession followed.
Originally surrounded by a moat measuring 255 by 195 meters (which no longer exists), the overall layout, like almost all of the temples at Angkor, runs its axis on an East to West direction. From the eastern entrance, there is a causeway that runs 500 meters directly to a landing stage on the now filled in Eastern Baray (Eastern reservoir). Like other temples in the region, this was symbolically important, tying it into Hindu mythology stories, with the temple lending itself as a depiction of Mount Meru and the reservoir the Hindu Sea of Creation.

East Mebon Temple

Built around the same time as the Eastern Baray and dedicated in 953 AD, this is a temple mountain built in the same style as Pre Rup. Enclosed by two walls and three tiers, it is constructed from most of the durable Khmer construction materials of the time, mainly brick, sandstone, laterite and stucco. At the top of the tiers is a central tower planted on a square platform, surrounded by one smaller tower at each of it’s corners.
The stone carvings and sculptures are known for their quality and variations with notably ones including well known Hindu religious scenes and two meter high free standing elephants carved from stone at each of the corners on the first two tiers.
Although the surrounding Baray that the temple sits in has now dried up, there are still reminders that this temple was once an island, such as the four landing stages at its base.

West Mebon Temple

Prasat West Mebon is located four kilometres (2.4miles) west of Angkor Thom. The south dyke of the West Baray, take a boat to the island in the center; walk to the east entrance of the temple. It was built in second half of the 11th century by Udayadityavarman II, probably dedicated to Visnu (Hindu), with following to Prasat Baphuon art style.

  BACKGROUND
